Director Statement

My goal as a filmmaker is to create stories that resonate with the Latin American experience by exploring complex relationships that focus on the journey towards self-acceptance.

Growing up in a Mexican immigrant household, I looked toward romantic comedies and sitcoms to learn about American culture. The use of humor to comment on topics like love, politics, family, dating, and work captured my imagination as a storyteller. In creating Mira Donde Nos Encontramos, my aim was to honor the romantic comedy genre while offering a glimpse into the Mexican American experience set in the corporate world, which I hadn’t seen yet in workplace rom-coms.

The story highlights the universal struggle of those who identify as bicultural and resonate with the feeling of not being from here nor there - "ni de aquí, ni de allá." It also explores how external factors like opportunity and individuals can positively or negatively influence identity.

Although Mira reflects a multicultural experience, it speaks to anyone who has ever doubted their sense of belonging. My hope is that viewers will leave the film with a gentle reminder that they are more than good enough.
